Ms. Walsher's Clip Chart System
Our classroom contains a clip chart that helps students visualize and reflect on their behavior in school. Clips are moved up for positive actions and words, while clips are moved down for poor actions and words. There are different levels to each side of the clip chart. The further a clip is moved up on the chart, the greater the reward, while the further a clip is moved down the chart, the more serious the consequence may be. A student's clip is not kept in one place, but rather moved during the day so that students may correct their behavior and engage in self-reflection. Rewards for Good Behavior Individual Students - If their clip is moved up on the chart, students will receive a certain number of gold stars depending on clip placement at the end of the day. A student's clip will move up if the student is consistently following expectations, exhibiting elements of The Three B's or Class CARES, or otherwise growing our classroom community - 10 stars gets the student a prize in Ms. Walsher’s prize mug (fidgets, fun erasers, mini toys, etc.) Whole Class or Table Groups - A penny will be put into our Class Jar if the whole class is on task, following expectations, or receives a class compliment from another staff member. If 15 pennies are collected, the class will earn a reward (movie time, extra free time, PJ day, stuffed animal day, etc.) - Table Points are given to tables/groups who are following expectations. 10 Points earns the group a reward (flexible seating, stars, etc.) Consequences for Poor Behavior Individual Students - If their clip is moved down on the chart, students will receive a consequence depending on clip placement at the end of the day. A student's clip will move down if the student is poorly following expectations, not exhibiting elements of The Three B's or Class CARES, or otherwise not being a positive force in our classroom community Table Groups - Table Points may be taken away from tables/groups who are poorly following expectations Ms. Walsher’s Class CARES Cooperation (working together effectively) Assertive (I statements are used to express feeling) Responsibility Empathy (understanding the feelings of others) Self Control (understanding that the student controls their actions) Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful (The Three B’s) |
